National School Spirit Day is a service program that began in 2009 to celebrate leadership, involvement, and service work among cheerleaders, dancers and spirit leaders. The goal is to show the power of spirit leaders across the country and what a difference teams make throughout their schools and communities. The week leading up to National School Spirit Day, scheduled in September, spirit teams and individuals are encouraged to perform up to four hours of community service work.

The American School Spirit Award is an honor recognizing the top all-around cheerleading and dance programs in the country. These teams exemplify community service, outstanding school athletic support, spirit raising activities, academics, and overall, today’s cheerleading squad. The winning team receives a trip to the National High School Cheerleading Championship for two coaches and four captains/squad members, a feature spot on ESPN, awards for spring banquet, a feature spot on Varsity.com and Varsity TV, a gift certificate for UCA camp, pullover jackets, and a feature in American Cheerleader Magazine.
