Newtown Strong 12-14-12

January 23, 2013  |  Cheers for Charity

On December 14th, 2012, a tragic shooting took the lives of 28 precious individuals at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Champion All Stars, located in Newtown, has been directly affected by this heart-wrenching event and have spread the love and support to those families who have lost their loved ones. Champion has put up 26 angels on their gym front window, 26 candles in their gym and each month they will be putting up 26 shapes representing each victim (February- hearts, March- shamrocks, etc.). On the 14th of every month, athletes in the gym will be wearing green to practice to show their continued support. Gym Owner, Michelle Mastriann states, “It’s the least I can do to try to bring some joy to siblings of the victims and students who survived the horrible ordeal. I believe there is something we can always do to help.”

The Champion gym, along with the help of CNY All Stars & East Celebrity Elite, has begun fundraising for these families with “Newtown Strong” bracelets and “Never Forget” t-shirts. Champion’s overall goal is to invite all the families who were directly impacted by the shooting to their gym next year for a special showcase and to present them each with a check to help cover their funeral costs and other financial difficulties. In Mid-February, Champion will also be starting a Flex & Fitness program for all Sandy Hook Elementary School children who survived the shooting. Champion hopes that this will provide the kids with a safe haven to escape the violent acts that took place.

“We at Champion will NEVER FORGET these families,” said Michelle. And we at Varsity will never forget those precious angels either.

If you would like to help support these families by purchasing a t-shirt or bracelet, please contact Champion All Stars at 203- 798- 8656.

My heart breaks for the families affected by this tragedy. I love that community can come together for these young children. The thought and consideration put it to this is great, I love that people young and old can come together to remember the young children.I am sure the families will greatly appreciate this.
