As cheerleaders, our bodies are constantly being trained and pushed to the limit. We jump, tumble, lift or fly without thinking twice. It’s hard for us to imagine what our lives would be like if we had brittle bones, but some people have to deal with it every day.

Read MoreI can’t believe it is already April and I am back in Orlando training for Team USA! This will be my third year to have the opportunity to represent my country and I am thrilled to be back! Even though I’ve been here before, these next two weeks are a little bit different for me because this year I tried out for the All Girl team instead of Coed. I am looking forward to this change and getting to work with and learn from the most talented cheerleaders/coaches in the country.

To me, good sportsmanship means always staying positive, enjoying the activity you are participating in for the activity itself, and respecting yourself, your teammates and your competitors along the way. As cheerleaders, we are visible members in our community that have the responsibility to be leaders on sportsmanship. Especially on the sidelines, we help lead positive fan behavior in support of our team.

As cheerleaders, we are in the perfect leadership position in our community to spread the word about breast cancer and encourage others to join us in our efforts. One awesome way to raise awareness is by using some pink poms, bows or socks from the Varsity Shop! At the University of Alabama, we host a “Power of Pink” volleyball match where the players where pink and the cheerleaders shake their pink poms! Cheerleaders need to start the year off right by being ambassadors and generating a sense of community within their schools. In high school, my school kicked off the year with a freshmen orientation the week before the first day of classes. In the middle of the day, all of the new freshmen came into the gym for a pep rally.
